When is the right time to collaborate?

Collaboration can provide a much needed dose of inspiration, especially for women.

Whether it is simply because many of us were raised to be of service and help, or if it is a deep ancestral pull from centuries of doing shared work—baking, cooking, mending, childcare, gardening—many of us feel drawn to and uplifted by collaboration.

COVID put an exceptional strain on our inner need to work collaboratively with others, especially limiting physically sharing space.

In truth, living through a pandemic, left many women (and men) yearning, disconnected, drained, stressed, off-kilter and feeling uninspired.

Thankfully we now have a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with that pull towards a sense of collaborative tribe once again.

When is the right time to create a new collaboration?

Honestly, anytime really.

However, here are some signs that you might benefit from a little sister tribe collaboration.

You:

feel like career/life is a little “flat”

are uninspired, bored, feel stuck

can’t find the right solution to a challenge

have an idea that requires collective energy

yearn for connection & shared vision

would love a fresh perspective and shared process

are ready to grow in new directions/open to possibilities!

meet someone with a shared vision and are inspired to create!

Recently I’ve come into a few collaborations that are inspiring to me! What DO you want? What to YOU want?

Ok transparency- there are a couple shows I love to watch on CW. I find all things superhero and magic really fun and a great source of imagination and entertainment! Also honestly, I appreciate how CW finds a way to weave in relevant social issues into their storylines. It's kind of inspiring.

That said, I heard something truly profound on Charmed (yes Charmed), that I listened to four times- a conversation between two characters that went something like:

Jordan, as he spoke about a dream job: “and then I’m finding myself saying and doing things that don’t feel like me. Ambition is scary monster.”

Maggie: “I guess we just have to figure out a way to get what we want without compromising who we are.”

Jordan: “First we have to figure out what we actually want.”

➰➰➰

And so, I can’t help but ask,

What DO you want?
What do YOU want?

These can be hard questions to answer, especially if you’ve been in roles of service or been raised to be of service to others.

Girls and women are particularly trained around this mindset. To be kind, generous, allow others to take a turn first, to help those in need, to be supportive. And often, especially for any moms, to put the needs of others/your child first.

You may think:

“So wait…you want me to be able to answer the question, “What do I want?

But I haven’t been raised listening to that channel.

I’ve been on the “How can I help YOU?” channel.”

It can feel a bit overwhelming to ask yourself, “Do I even know what I want?”

And yet it is crucial we learn how to explore that question. It truly is the key to cultivating joy, confidence, and a sense of peace and flow in life.

You can NOT experience true alignment and fulfillment until you know what you want, who you are, what is most important to you.

(What would you align with without knowing what’s important to you?)

AND the good news is, you don’t need to know it all now.

You need not answer it all at once.

Imagine the slow unfolding of a flower, breaking free from the earth, rising towards the sun. Ever so slowly it evolves fully into the beauty it was meant to be.

I believe that all endeavors, no matter how immense they may feel, can be sorted out into many small steps.

A first step towards knowing what you want could be to simply start a running list (paper or digital) of all the things you LOVE and enjoy….everything from flavors, fragrances, sights, and sounds, to activities, hobbies, types of tasks, times of day.

Just start noticing and gathering all that YOU love.

If you could choose anything to wear, eat, or drink and could do anything you wanted (for fun or pay), what would those things be?

Have fun with it. Don’t quit your job or stop helping the people you care about.

Just start noticing what you love.

Then consider making a bit more time in your life for more of what you love, if only 10 minutes a day.

Sprinkle more of what you love throughout your life.

And little by little, you’ll start to clarify the things you love most, what you can’t live without and still be you, and what is essential for you to thrive.

Then answering the question “What do I want?” will become incrementally easier.

Enjoy the journey!

Despite your level of power, leadership or influence, you are human.

You have human needs. 

You have human flaws.

You get tired, stressed, overloaded, like everyone else.

The distinction is that you, as a leader, have a higher level of responsibility to manage when your human side needs attention (because it's got broad impact.)

Do you know what your "Empowered Platform" looks like (for example)?

It's that version of you that:

√ Feels solid

√ Is clear-minded

√ Feels rested (maybe not perfectly but generally)

√ Is able to problem-solve

√ Demonstrates patience

√ Delivers kind yet potent feedback to others

√ Recovers quickly from setbacks with a "learning" mindset and resilience

Depending on your level of self-awareness your own Empowered Platform specifics, combined with awareness of your Red Flags, you can course correct real-time (most of the time) when your Platform starts to slip.

Red Flags are different for everyone but could look like:

√ Not sleeping

√ Fatigue

√ Irritability

√ Skipping meals

√ Disrupted/mis-firing body rhythms (i.e. digestion/ bowels)

√ Over-reacting to a situation (that otherwise would be manageable on a good Platform day)

√ Making hasty decisions from the "get it done" perspective vs. best choice 

√ Being late, rushed or over-scheduled

√ Inner critic is fired up w/self and others, possibly with lots of silent %@#& 

√ Not connecting with others emotionally- all "business"

√ Being harsh with kids/family

√ Forgetting things/appointments/meaningful dates

There are many more potential Red Flags that we each have. It's vital that we learn what they are so we can start making shifts. Living in an ongoing state of Red Flags is a crash-course for disaster-- whether in our physical, mental, emotional health or our ability to rise in our careers.

We owe it to our Best Selves and those we serve to make time to identify both what our Empowered Platform looks like as well as our Red Flags. 

Not sure how to do it on your own?

Hire someone to support you. 

(I'd love to support you.)

This is perhaps the greatest gift you can give yourself and those you lead. If you've got a forward-thinking company, they'll likely pick up the expense-- fully or in-part. (And you'll never know unless you ask.)

Once you know how to manage your Platform consistently, I promise you, you'll start to experience your life and leadership in a way that feels much more inspiring. (The positive byproduct? You'll consequently pass on the positive vibes and tools to all your peeps.)

PS As a busy leader, there's never an obvious time to start coaching. You simply need to claim it for yourself and your future and go for it.

Exceptional is not born of ordinary choices

Leaders with exceptional lives and careers do so by making choices that align with THEIR purpose vs. the Norm.

They ALIGN their daily choices with their greater vision, and minimize typical limiting cultural habits. (i.e. overworking, poor nutrition and health, excess stress, disconnection from Self/nature/community, sleep deprivation, suppressing creative expression and more.)

EXCEPTIONAL requires the courage to be DIFFERENT. To not "fit in," but instead blaze a trail. These people DO life differently.

❊ They might get up early to workout, create, meditate or daydream.

❊ They might eat food that is vibrant and creates vitality.

❊ They might decline invites when over-scheduled even if they'd love to go.

❊ They might prioritize rest or nature or connection or family or a cause.

❊ They might consistently ASK for what they need to advance an initiative.

❊ They might build communities with shared vision.

❊ They might "give back" on various levels--time, energy or funds.

They are often outliers in various aspects of life.

And yes, it can be lonely at times.

However, the fulfillment and impact that they make in their life and craft can be profound.

From the outside we think, "Wow, how cool their life is" not realizing that it is ALL intentional. Every choice aligns.

The option to align our choices with a greater vision is available to each of us.(Even if right now it feels far away.)

We have to be willing to be different, to make powerful choices in order to live exceptionally.

One choice at a time.

One day at a time.

Willing to do what scares the ___ out of you?
Keeping going!!

At 52, it's a really strange feeling to be starting over on many levels. Although I have been coaching ongoing since 1999, I unplugged entirely from marketing shortly after Levi was born. There were just too many things to juggle while being a full-time mama.

Over the past two years as Levi’s been getting older, more independent, and his digestive disease is somewhat balanced, I've been drawn to expand and nourish my business once more. (So exciting!)

What a journey it’s been!

It started with great enthusiasm and creativity, followed quickly by feeling naked and exposing myself through authenticity in a way that I had kinda forgotten about!

People say that once you hit 50 you stop caring about what others think. On many levels, this is definitely true. However, claiming my unique passions, gifts and talents, and sharing them broadly through my newsletter and social media is a whole other level!

The truth is, when we are called to expand, we often have to step forward into what feels like vast, risky, unknown nothingness. Repeatedly.

When I first sent out my newsletter after a 6+ year hiatus, did I feel like I might vomit? Absolutely.

When I put together social media posts with any amount of woo woo or deeply meaningful content, does it still feel scary? Yes, all the time!

At the same time, I know it's my right path in order to grow. Because:

I believe powerfully in the work I’m offering to the world and the support I know it provides.
I believe powerfully in the role of intuition in life and biz as well as the profound impact of learning energy management tools (especially for energy-sensitive Sisters)!

At times I still wonder about how my ideas will be received. That's natural. (Having my TRUE self being linked so closely to my work is pretty vulnerable as well as liberating).

**If I can PAUSE for a moment and remember:
“These words will resonate deeply for certain women who will feel SEEN, supported and called by these ideas. It is important.”
—then it feels compelling and worth the discomfort. An easy "yes."

I have to be willing to move through feeling scared, intimidated and vulnerable repeatedly as I expand further into my purpose.

There’s really no other way when we’re choosing to live a remarkable life.

In whatever way you wish to grow, remember to be gentle with yourself during the learning curve and be open to navigating the unknown, which can at times feel crazy scary!

I wish for you a strong sense of Self and purpose to help you consistently take those positive, forward steps- keep going! (Even if you feel like you might hurl! )

OVERVIEW

I've launched a new Soulful Leadership group for women leaders (and emerging women leaders) to introduce a new style of leadership (that doesn't deplete you and actually amplifies your impact, intuition and overall energy).

This is a really “gentle” way to start getting involved in the conversation of Soulful Leadership. Consider it more of a “participate as you like” resource.

Disclaimer- I'm still learning about all the functionality of Insight Timer Groups- I'll learn more as I go!

DETAILS

This GROUP is virtual and you can participate as much or little as you like. It is no commitment, and of course the more you participate, the more likely you’ll benefit. :)
In FEED you’ll find posts and music or meditation tracks.
LIBRARY: Shared tracks from the FEED can also be found in the library minus any commentary.

INTERACTION

Members can interact via the FEED within the group as well--it is one long thread.
Members can also interact via the CHAT section for more conversation- you can start a chat or join one in progress.
GROUP MEDITATIONS: These are audio-only meditations- music/guided track will stream and we meditate together. (Nice to simply "show up" with others.) There is also a chat function during group meditations. There's NO VIDEO element during Group Meditations-- come as you are!

Soul Moxie Insights

When you choose your intentions for a new year, how compelling are they? You want to FEEL an internal buzz of inspiration when you imagine it coming to fruition. (NOT a willpower push or a “should.”)

In Soulful Leadership we devote to aligning deeply with what matters most--ideas, approaches, actions, relationships that are steeped in our meaningful purpose and sync with our values.

The primary focus is not the doing. It is NOT about being successful because it's “good” for you.

The primary focus is around creating something that feels inspiring, compelling, and impacts your life (and possibly the lives of others) in a significant way. (It all has a ripple effect!)

For the sake of this writing, creating a vision is like crafting a detailed and sensory-rich movie of what you wish to create.

It is like detailing and then watching the desired aspect of your life being played on a screen in front of you, with you as the leading lady.

You see yourself experiencing what you desire and your senses are all engaged— all the colors, smells, sounds, sensations, temperature, energy shifts, mood, are part of this vision. Be thorough with all the senses so that when you’re practicing your vision, your entire brain gets lit up!

Here are a few steps to get started

Take time to explore and choose your intention/what you wish to create.
- Perhaps start with a bulleted list of possibilities and see which one “sings” to you a little louder than the others.
- If you’re not sure where to begin, start by exploring things you’ve always wanted to do, have, express, or become (The WHY is also key!)
Make mental/emotional space to BELIEVE it is possible. (So often we get stuck here. We don’t believe it’s possible so we stop.)
- You may have to create a stepped process- where the first vision is “I’m willing to believe it’s possible to ________.” and imagine that.
Step into willingness to RECEIVE your desire.
- Imagine what it would be like and what you would do. When it happens, then what? This can be another stuck spot for people— they aren’t used to receiving, feel they don’t deserve it, it’s too much to ask, it’s selfish…la la la.
- You must open to receiving- otherwise this silent resistance will keep pushing away all your magnificent possibilities.
Detail it out to include ALL the feels. What does it look like, what are you doing in the vision, how do you feel in your body, mind and soul when this becomes real? What does it open for you?
Run the vision in your mind/body daily or multiple times a day. FEEL it as if it is true. Really sit with it and imagine it like you’re watching a movie. Over and over again.

This is a massive and fun topic, so start small with one inspired intention, one delicious vision and try it out. There’s no perfect way to do it.

We often get stuck in feeling like we should do these things on our own. It’s just not true. It’s a great way to practice receiving support in preparation for receiving your vision-come-to-life!
